THE STAND

Stephen King has assured this year that any appearance between the COVID-19 pandemic and the lethal flu that he devised in his novel Apocalypse (The Stand in English) is pure and unfortunate coincidence. That does not mean that the new series based on the best-seller comes at a time when fiction and reality are intermingled.

The Stand, which just finished most of its production before the arrival of confinement and sanitary restrictions, already has a release date in Spain. The miniseries will begin airing on January 3 on Starzplay and features an all-star cast led by Whoopi Goldberg, James Marsden, Amber Heard, Odessa Young, Greg Kinnear, Heather Graham and Alexander Skarsgard as the ultra-villain Randall Flagg.

The fiction shows a world decimated by a plague and involved in an elemental struggle between good and evil. The fate of humanity rests on the shoulders of Mother Abagail (Whoopi Goldberg), 108, and a handful of survivors. Her worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a deadly smile and indescribable powers: Randall Flagg (Alexander Skarsgård), the Dark Man.
