The universe is expanding. The same goes for the Disney + streaming portal — with the simultaneous political relationships of the second «The Mandalorian» season in more than 20 countries, the Disney group will continue to grow. The first season of the Star Wars real series in Germany in March with a new new episode per week; a current episode will be added every Friday.

The story about the Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin, who breaks the code of his guild to protect his prey the child, Baby Yoda from his clients, was also a narrative reorientation of the «Star Wars» universe . Much is to be expected: Baby Yoda became one of the most time-honored Internet memes; but the whole series was also a huge success for Disney.

This is the predecessor and the maker around the showrunner Jon Favreau («Iron Man»), the space western series decorated with loving details from the «Star Wars» world and with messages like Dave Filoni («The Clone Wars» ), Deborah Chow («Better Call Saul») or Taika Waititi («Jojo Rabbit») had the ideal team. Dave Filoni alone, who was responsible for two episodes, is a science fiction fan from the very beginning and has an almost encyclopedic «Star Wars» knowledge. Then there were some of the most charismatic actors ever, like Carl Weathers (as Greef Karga), Giancarlo Esposito (as Moff Gideon), legendary director Werner Herzog (as the client) and of course Pedro Pascal (as the Mandalorian). The series had everything fans could wish for: a stylish and nostalgic look, speed gliders ready for scrap, retro spaceships, clumsy androids and a superbly composed score by Ludwig Göransson, which sounded as if it was new and always there — a classic when it was first released.

Storytelling and technology from «The Mandalorian»

«The Mandalorian» told a rather simple, but independent story that was episodic and yet had a common thread. And it was always amazingly funny. The plot was retold in the credits for each episode with painting-like storyboards, from which the paint was already peeling off, which seemed like a kind of historicization that one liked to watch until the end.

In the final episode of Season 1, there is a skirmish between the Mandalorian Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), Cara Dune (Gina Carano), Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) and Imperial troops led by Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito). Later the small group managed to escape, in which the assassin Android IG-11, which had meanwhile been reprogrammed as a «care robot», was involved.

While Karga and Dune stay behind, the Mandalorian and the child leave the planet. Moff Gideon cuts himself out of his downed hunter with his lightsaber and it becomes clear that the child will also be in danger in the future.

So starts season 2 of «The Mandalorian»

In the new episode of the series, the Mandalorian is now looking for more members of his guild who are scattered around — they should help him to bring the child back to his own people (or the Jedi). At this point in «Star Wars» history, the rest of the Jedi have already retired to the most distant corners of the universe or have died.

On the planet Tatooine he meets Cobb Vanth (played by Timothy Olyphant, known from «Santa Clarita Diet»), the marshal of the remote desert enclave Mos Pelgo, who wears Mandalorian armor. Cobb Vanth is a warrior who brings «Han Solo» qualities and acts as a protector. The two make a deal — Mando aka Din Djarin is supposed to help the villagers eliminate a dangerous threat. And at the very end a mysterious figure appears, which will probably trigger great storms of enthusiasm among some «Star Wars» fans. The pace of the narration is still rather slow, but that’s not a problem — this type of narration seems to be perfectly appropriate here. The whole setting of this episode is fully trimmed to «space westerns»: A desert city with a saloon, frightened residents, a powerful enemy and a heroic savior are the ingredients of this nostalgic homage to classics like «Play me a song of death» or «Die glorious seven «. Mando speaks «Tuscan» with the sand people — the running gag seems a bit overused, but is still funny again.

In any case, one thing is already clear: The second season of the «Star Wars» series will also quickly develop its addictive potential — it will be exciting to see whether the makers can keep the high level. According to «Variety», the third season of «The Mandalorian» is already being planned.
